Sampoorn Santhe – 2014

Along with Dastkar and Kala Madhyam, which is famous on its own among craft-lovers,  Sampoorn Santhe is one fair I look forward to in Bangalore for its collection of arts and crafts. Mostly this happens at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, the arts college of Bangalore at Kumara Krupa Road. Both times I visited the fair before in the previous years, it was for shopping. The beauty of handmade has its own charm, while the prices are kept affordable. The craftsmen come directly from different parts of the country and sell the craft products directly to the customers.

This time, I went for purely photographic purpose as I was bitten with the photowalk bug recently. The new friends formed at the Bangalore Photowalk Facebook group gave me the company and we had lots of fun on a Sunday afternoon.

There were the toys and lacquer items from our nearby Channapatna,

and the wood carvings from the north.

Huge collection of ceramic cup and saucers, the small version of which is seen in many parts of Bangalore

and the terracotta pot hangings.

There was live demonstration of working with crystal figurines and bookmarks.

There was also a handloom gallery in the covered center hall, which I was not interested in. But from what I have heard, you can find a vast collection of handmade kurtis, clothing material and saris of various parts of India under one roof.

Leaving you with few more pics to feel the taste and spirit of Santhe.

  1. Love these kind of fairs. This post has remindedme that it has been quite some time that I visited a fair In fact, in NCR, we dont have to wait, the Dilli Haat is an ongoing fair all times of the year. Once it gets pleasant here, I will definitely plan for this outing!!!!
